On June 30, 2023 Rodney Wheeler, a bridge tender on the State Route 99/First Avenue South bridge, was discovered deceased when relief crews didn’t find him on site when they reported to work. Emergency crews found him in the water below. Law enforcement closed their investigation shortly after finding no evidence of foul play. Rodney is survived by his fiancé Lavina McClam, their shared 6 children, his parents and extended family members.
